Firewise Native Perennials

Firewise does not mean fireproof, but we can follow practices that increase the fire-resistance around our homes. Plants that are fire resistant share the following characteristics: leaves are moist and supple, stems and branches are moist and not dry or dead, any sap or resin is low and water-like. Avoid planting highly flammable plants close to your home (examples: Juniper or arborvitae) and avoid using decorative bark mulch.
